Navigation etc.
Although also a version for piano solo is included, the work is intended for two clarinets, or two flutes, or one flute and one clarinet, with piano. All versions including the wind instruments use the same piano part, but the parts for winds differ, as the ranges and other properties of the instruments are different. As the work moves mainly in D Major, clarinets in A are the most natural choice, but it is possible to substitute these with clarinets in B flat. Also included are parts for these; they differ from the parts for clarinets in A only when dictated by the slightly different range.
In the first performance of the work, in an concert arranged by the Finnish Chamber Music Society in the Pool Hall of Munkkiniemenranta 43, Helsinki, clarinets were played by Timo I. Laakso and Katariina Piri with the composer at the piano.
