Misc. Notes *Heinrich Maria Romberg [Enrico Romberg / Генрих Мария Ромберг] (b. Paris, April 4, 1802; d. Hamburg, May 2, 1859), a German violinist and conductor. He became the concertmaster of the Imperial Opera in St. Petersburg in 1827 and later served as its music director. It was he who assisted Hector Berlioz, on the French composer's first visit to Russia in 1847, by recruiting an orchestra for his series of concerts:

"Arrangements for Berlioz's concert, his first during his tour of St. Petersburg and Moscow that year, were planned at the salon of Count Mikhail Vielgorsky; subsequent preparations were carried out by Heinrich Romberg, conductor of the Italian opera, who recruited the orchestra—mostly consisting of German musicians—and by Alexey L'vov, who recruited the chorus from two opera companies and the Imperial Kapella" (Historical Dictionary of Russian Music By Daniel Jaffé)
