This work is based on an old fashioned Swedish folk song from the pastures in Dalarna in Nnrthern central Sweden. It is the song of female herds who suoervised the cattle in the deep forests during summertime. In the song these female herds are looking forward to St Michaels day in fall, the day when they could quit their job and look out for a new and perhaps better occupation. The score includes a composer's commet in German where the Swedish song text is completely quoted in the original language. The song sounds very sad in a minor key which is very common in heavy-minded traditional Swedish folk music from Dalarna and other near by landscapes.
