Misc. Notes Messerschmidt cites the Caledonia Collection, and attributes this to C.W. Findlay. However, apart from the fact that it is not in the Caledonia Collection, the tune exists in an 1816 collection (see below), and C.W. Findlay was only born in 1850.

Published in 1816 The Airs and Melodies Peculiar to the Highlands of Scotland and the Isles (Fraser, Simon), no.132, p.63. However, it is not known whether that was the first publication. Since this collection was only edited and harmonised by Fraser, it would seem the melodies are anonymous. Also published in 1844 in Hamilton's Universal Tune-Book (Various), book 1, p.12 (melody only, but exactly as in Fraser's arrangement).
