Motto: "Through youth to strife, Through Death to Life."
Full score and parts were republished by Kalmus ca. the 1990s (score: edition A 3390, 189 pp.)

Performed in 1889 January in Berlin; this may have been its premiere ("A fourth symphony was brought out for the first time in Berlin in 1889,...") - this agrees with Brookes, 2005 as well.

According to Brookes, the full score was brought out along with the reduced score. (Indeed, the British Library has the 1891 full score.)
