Publication noted in the January, 1870 issue so probably published late in 1869. Noted in a list of (recently) published symphonies in the Signale für Musikalische Welt, 20 March 1871, p.226.

An earlier symphony in D minor (Op.44) published ca.1854, according to Wikipedia Op.44 is Esser's 4th symphony; this might be Esser's 5th symphony?
