History

The founder Rolf Marbot's life is an extraordinary story of courage, survival, talent and enterprise. Born Albrecht Marcuse in Breslau, he worked for Anton J. Benjamin in Berlin before fleeing in 1933 to France, where he built Méridian into the major publisher of popular French singers 1940-70. From 1942 to 1944 he avoided the Vel' d'Hiv Roundup by taking the name Louis Sandret and working as a cafe pianist in Lyon.
